A Teachable Moment…
Today as we caught the end of Barack Obama’s inaugural speech, I tried to explain to the Big One who he was. It was a bit over head head I suppose. The conversation went something like this:
FixItMommy: {Big One} do you see that man on the television?
Big One: Yes.
FixItMommy: His name is Barack Obama and he is the new President of our country.
Big One: Yes he is.
FixItMommy: We live in the United States of America, that’s the name of the country we live in.
Big One: I know that.
FixItMommy: That man, Barack Obama is the new President of the United States of America, where we live. He is in charge of our country.
Big One: Like Daddy and you are in charge? He is in charge just like you and Daddy are in charge of our house. I’m not big enough yet to be in charge of your kitchen. When I get bigger I can be in charge of your kitchen. I can put the spoons away.
So there you have it. That is my three-year-old’s take on the inauguration.
hehe. I love that she wants to be in charge of your kitchen. 🙂
Mine is just repeating “Sasha and Melia” and “Present Obama”… so much for remembering historical moments, huh?
